Sanctuary Textures: An Installation in European Texture
Twelve European tiles, composed as one backlit wall of arches and shadow. It is a source of European style inspiration you can actually reach out and touch, an art piece built to help you find your favourite texture and create your own sanctuary at home.
We built Sanctuary Textures as an experience rather than a display. It gathers twelve very different European tiles into one composition, backlit and arranged as arches, purely to celebrate what texture can do. Think of it as a gallery wall for surfaces: a place to slow down, look closely, and feel the depth that a flat showroom rack can never show you.
Each arch is its own statement, a single texture isolated so you can read it the way you would read a brushstroke. You are not expected to take the whole wall home. The wall is here to inspire, to help you discover the one texture that stops you, and to imagine it in a space of your own.
The rise of texture
For years interiors chased flatness: big, seamless, perfectly even surfaces. Beautiful, but quiet to the point of silence. What is arriving now, in the European collections landing in our showroom, is a return to texture as the main event. Fluted relief, three dimensional stone, hand pressed basketweave, travertine with its open grain left proudly visible.
Texture does something colour cannot. It changes through the day. Morning light rakes across a fluted surface and throws long, soft shadows; by evening the same tile reads warm and still. That movement is exactly why we built the installation around light, and exactly why a flat photo can only ever hint at it.
Why Europe does this best
The tiles in the installation come from the parts of Europe that have refined surface craft for generations: Spain and Italy, with houses like Porcelanosa and Atlas Concorde alongside our own Design Tiles exclusive ranges. There is a reason European porcelain still sets the standard for texture: rectified precision, relief that is deep and deliberate rather than printed, and a restrained palette that keeps everything considered.
It is also practical. These are porcelain and ceramic surfaces, so you get the warmth and movement of travertine, marble and handmade clay, with the durability, low maintenance and mostly no sealing ease that real Australian living rewards.
A few of the textures on the wall
A deliberate mix of makers, from our own exclusives to an Italian icon and a Spanish luxury house, to show how broad the texture conversation has become.
Travertine Soft Stone 3D
Our most loved travertine-look porcelain, cut with a three dimensional linear relief. Stone warmth with porcelain ease, and the quiet anchor of the whole wall.

Boost Glow 3D
From one of Italy's most respected porcelain houses, a refined concrete look with a soft, sculptural 3D surface that shifts beautifully under raking light.

Nyra 3D Fluted
Italian porcelain in a soft, horizontal flute relief, the most spa-like surface on the wall. Light rakes across the ribs and the whole thing seems to breathe warmth.

Taranto Marfil Line Relief
Large-format marble-effect ceramic from Spanish luxury house Porcelanosa. The vertical relief catches light like fabric, bringing architectural movement without a single loud note.

Here is the honest part: no photo on this page will ever convey what this wall actually feels like. A screen flattens everything. It cannot give you the way light catches a fluted edge as you move, the soft drag of a basketweave under your fingertips, or the depth that only appears when you are standing in front of it. Texture is a physical language, and it is meant to be touched.
That is the whole reason the installation exists. The palette is deliberately quiet, all warm whites, sand, travertine beige and soft taupe, so nothing competes and the textures can speak. Stand inside it and you get the same cues your body reads in a day spa or a boutique hotel: soft light, natural materiality, stillness. It is the sanctuary feeling, made from surfaces, and it does quiet work for how a home makes you feel at the end of the day.

Unique to Design Tiles
You can buy a beautiful tile almost anywhere. What you cannot easily find is the composition: twelve European textures, from our own exclusive ranges to Atlas Concorde and Porcelanosa, chosen and balanced to hang together as one piece. That curation is the work of our showroom, with Pelin's design eye and Ibrahim's thirty plus years of tiling and construction knowledge side by side.
Sanctuary Textures is the completion of something we have been building toward for a while, and we are genuinely excited to launch it. Not as a catalogue, but as a piece of European inspiration worth making the trip for.
